Inspiration:

My aim was to create an a single illustration that captured the tension between the characters in the book. The illustration responds to the tether of the characters entanglement with themselves and their platonic and romantic relationships with others. It can be interpreted as hands that reach out to each other, or as a rope on a single thread. Toru’s dilemma between holding on to the past and letting go of his grief left a lasting impression for me as the reader. This became the key inspiration for my design.
